At St Mary's the Mount school, our intent is to support each child on their journey in faith whilst ensuring they become ‘the person God intends them to be.’ We aim:
1. To support and nurture faith in our children by teaching the values, beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church, and in doing so deepen their awareness of God.
2. To provide a curriculum in which knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith are promoted and appropriate skills and attitudes are acquired by the children.
3. To create a parish/school community which fosters Christian relationships based on the values of truth, holiness, justice, love, forgiveness, reconciliation and peace.
4. To foster moral and spiritual growth in the children helping them acquire a set of values which will guide their behaviour and lead them to be open and enquiring
5. To encourage awareness, appreciation and respect for those of other faiths and cultures.
6. To encourage parents to work towards a successful partnership between home, school and Parish.
7. To raise awareness of, and support through prayer, fund raising and other activities our wider global community.
What makes us Catholic?
When asked, the children said:
We say prayers.
Our name is Catholic
We pray
Father Jobin comes to see us
We have Mass
There are crosses around the school.
We know the difference between a cross and a crucifix.
We sing songs about Jesus
We have a Mission Statement
We have Holy Communion
We have prayer tables – we use them every day
We have prayer leaders
We use Bibles in RE
We follow the agreed syllabus from the Birmingham Archdiocese ‘Learning and Growing as the Children of God’. Each year group studies a number of units over the year. The units are developmental, building on previous knowledge and experience and taking into account of the children’s age and understanding. The topics covered by each year group are as detailed on the curriculum overview below.
Have a look at our Twitter/ X account to see photos of what we do in RE. Remember to look at your class SEESAW page - there is lots on there too!
The Jubilee Year 2025
Pilgrims of Hope.
The Holy Father has decided that 2025 will be a year of Jubilee, something that happens every 25 years. The theme is “Pilgrims of Hope”.
We have launched our Jubilee Year and have many things planned!
We have a well embedded programme of prayer and liturgy at St. Mary's the Mount. The children are very proud to lead their prayer.
Our monitoring evidences that:
· Children work collaboratively with other pupils to regularly prepare creative and well-constructed experiences of prayer and liturgy.
· Children readily reflect on their experience of prayer and liturgy with confidence and increasingly in more detail. They can articulate clearly how this has inspired them to action.
· Reflections/evaluations are taken into consideration when planning the next prayer.
· Children demonstrate a wide variety of ways of praying. In their planning, they include, for example, the use of scripture, silence, meditation, reflection and liturgical music. They demonstrate an excellent understanding of the shape and meaning of the Church’s liturgical year and how it is expressed in the prayer life of the school.
