Class Routine
Registration takes place promptly at 8:45 am. The children will complete their reading for pleasure time, where they are able to choose a book they enjoy.
Phonics starts at 9am followed by Literacy and maths (including calculations) in the morning session.
The afternoon sessions are used to teach the remaining subjects: RE, science, history, geography, PE, art, DT, music RSE and computing.
A small amount of homework to help children consolidate their learning is given weekly.
Friday is French Friday with the register taken in French and prayers in French too.
To ensure the children are knowing more and remembering more, Friday is Flashback Friday with four retrieval questions set each week to see if the children have retained the previous knowledge taught.
Our School Rules
At St. Mary’s, in everything we say and do we follow the teaching of Jesus.
1. We always listen carefully so that we can learn and be safe.
2. We work hard and persevere to achieve our best.
3. We take responsibility for our actions.
4. We show good manners by being kind and treating others as we would like to be treated.
5. We value and care for our school and all the things in it.
6. When lining up and walking round school, we always walk quietly.
Homework
The main focus for homework is reading. Children will bring home two reading books (one if it is a longer chapter book) each Friday. These should be read more than once to develop fluency and returned to school the following Thursday. Children should read a variety of other books at home in addition to the school scheme. Children have a separate reading book in school that we use to listen to them read at school.
In addition, there are spellings set on Spelling Shed. Each child has their own individual login. Any problems, please contact Mrs Hammond and she can reset it for you.
Some Maths work is set on the Deepening Understanding website. These are tasks based on work done in class. In addition to this, children should focus on learning their number bonds up to and including 10. Then can then extend this to number bonds to 20. Children can also practise counting in 2s, 3s and 5s from 0 and 10s from any number. As we progress through the year, children will be introduced to their times tables and it is encouraged for children to learn 2s, 5s and 10s by heart including the corresponding division facts.
