School Uniform

ST MARY’S THE MOUNT SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

as set out by the School Governors on October 5th 2026

· At our Catholic school, we believe that our uniform helps to create a strong sense of belonging, equality and pride within our school community. It reflects our shared identity and supports our Gospel values of respect, dignity and care for one another.

· We are also mindful of the financial pressures faced by families. Parents and carers are not required to purchase uniform items bearing the school logo, unless they wish to do so. The majority of our uniform can be purchased at lower cost from local supermarkets and other high-street retailers, helping families to choose affordable options while still meeting our uniform expectations.

· We are committed to making our uniform as accessible and affordable as possible. We offer a selection of pre-loved uniform items in school, which families are welcome to access. If you would like to find out what is available, please speak to the School Office. This is part of our Live Simply vision, where we show how we can live simply and sustainable as God has asked us. I encourage you to make use of this service.

· We ask that all uniform is clean, practical and suitable for school, with children encouraged to take pride in their appearance and care for their belongings. Our aim is, to maintain high standards while ensuring that our uniform remains affordable, inclusive and accessible for every family.

Girls – Winter Uniform

· Grey pinafore dress, skirt or plain grey straight legged trousers (not leggings).

· Girls may wear cycling shorts underneath their dresses/skirts. Leggings may not be worn

· Royal blue jumper or cardigan, with or without school logo.

· Pale blue blouse (short or long sleeved.

· Royal blue tie.

· Grey tights or white knee length or ankle socks.

· Black blue or brown school shoes – no heels (maximum heel height is 3cm.

· Trainers are NOT permitted, unless for PE day.

Girls – Summer Uniform

· Blue and white check dress, in any simple style.

· Blue and white check culottes

· Blue and white check skirt and blue polo shirt

· Grey skirt and blue polo shirt

· Royal Blue cardigan or jumper with or without school logo.

· Girls may wear cycling shorts underneath their dresses/skirts. Leggings may not be worn

· Grey knee length or ankle socks.

· Black, blue or brown school shoes/sandals (closed toes) of a sensible style are permitted - maximum heel height 3cm.

· Trainers are NOT permitted.

Boys – Winter Uniform

· Royal blue jumper, with or without school logo.

· Grey trousers.

· Pale blue shirt and tie (long or short sleeved).

· Grey socks.

· Black, blue or brown flat school shoes

· Trainers are NOT permitted, unless for PE day.

Boys – Summer Uniform

· Royal blue jumper, with or without school logo.

· Grey trousers or shorts.

· Pale blue polo shirts.

· Grey socks.

· Black, blue or brown flat school shoes

· Trainers are NOT permitted, unless for PE day.

Coats

· Royal blue lightweight coat or school fleece with logo can be worn, if desired.

· Alternatively any suitable plain navy blue or black coat or fleece is also acceptable. Patterns are not allowed.

School Bags & Equipment

· We ask that children use these bags for school. If you are currently using a different back pack, we ask you to buy the school back pack when you are contemplating replacing it. From September 2027 we ask for all children to use school back packs.

· PE pump bag (suitable for all Key Stages).

· KS1 book bag (suitable for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2).

· KS2 rucksack (suitable for Year 3 to Year 6).

· Pencil cases and writing equipment are provided by school. We ask that children do not bring their own.

PE Kit

· Royal blue shorts – Cycling shorts are not permitted.

· White T-shirt.

· Black pumps or trainers

· Royal blue jogging bottoms can be worn in the winter/colder months.

· Key Stage 2 children may choose to wear a navy blue tracksuit (no logos allowed).

Hair and Hair Accessories

This policy applies to all children in school and nursery.

· Longer hairstyles need to be kept neat and tidy by being tied back or plaited.

· Plain hair bands preferably blue or black to keep hair in place.

· More extreme haircuts, including irregular shaving ( mullets or undercuts) of the head, colouring or patterns are not appropriate . If your child has such hairstyle, it is expected that they will be allowed to ’grow out’ and not be recut or recoloured. If there is a persistent disregard to adhere to school policy then the child may be excluded to facilitate suitable adjustments.

· Ear-rings need to be covered with plasters if these are worn.

Watches

We do not allow smart watches or similar in school, as they are a distraction. Analogue watches can be worn in KS2. If your child arrives in a smart watch and to ensure that they concentrate on their work, we will ask the child to remove it and it will be returned at home time.

We encourage parents to talk through this policy with their child(ren) so they understand the importance of following school rules and are well prepared for the expectations they will meet when they move on to high school (see local high school policies).
