We were delighted to welcome our Mayor Anthony Harris to school for our Remembrance Service.
We were able to talk about our Victoria Cross War Hero- John Carless and remember the service and sacrifice he gave during World War One.
We are proud to have the official Remembrance Stone in his memory on our school grounds.
We are also planning a visit to the Mayors parlour and learn more about the Mayor's service to the community.
How can we serve our community?
Some of the children marched with the Remembrance Parade at the Cenotaph, some of our children collect litter around their community and some are Altar Servers and wardens in church.
I actually think this may be the best book week ever! So many more children are inspired to read and write creatively- it’s wonderful!
We kicked the week off with Michael Rosen (EVERYBODY LOVES CHOCOLATE CAKE! ) Following this the children brought in their writing and ideas from home to share. We have so many authors in the school!
On Tuesday Attie Lime ( author) came into school. The workshops were literally epic! The whole school assembly engaged every single child- was really remarkable. I must admit my own fear of writing poetry made me wonder how it would work! Need I have worried ? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
We did a poll with the children yesterday- 30% SAID THAT BEFORE Attie Lime’s visit they were not confident enough to write poetry or felt inspired, however AFTER 95% of the children did! It was wonderful to see the barriers being broken down! I might even pen a poem myself........................ Keep bringing in your poems to share in school!
This is what Attie had to say about us!
'The children were so polite, and their imaginations were just brilliant! There is clearly a real love of reading across the school, which was fantastic to see.'
Our Librarian visit inspired us to use our local resources and reminded us about the many free workshops they put on.
What was really lovely was how the staff and children all cosied up with a good book! It's brilliant to see first hand what enthusiastic home readers they are and how they are supported by their parents. We can also see what new books we need to buy for our library.
